In the Nazis could not have even gotten one person into orbit much less colonized the moon. Little in this movie is reality based. That said, this was a fun movie to watch even though it dealt with some serious issues.
The movie revolves around the good-hearted Nazi Renate who believes Hitler was trying to bring peace and love to the World. She is also the Nazi's Earth expert although she knows very little about Earth She eventually comes to see Hitler and the Nazis as they actually were when she finally visits Earth. It is hard to review this movie without spoilers. Suffice it to say that the comedy is dead pan--not done as well as Monty Python but how many have managed that? Politics, power, greed, corruption, nukes and racism are all slammed in a comedic manner.
Let's just say that the movie goes out with a big bang s. Despite the B-movie trope of having Nazis attacking from the dark side of the moon, this film has A-list special effects, great acting [exploiting humor by playing it straight], and a fun, satirical script.
She is called upon to apply her knowledge [or lack thereof] when Washington is captured. Reacting to him being African-American, her mad scientist father uses an albino-nizer to turn Washington Aryan and uses his cell phone to power the giant space battleship Gotterdamerung. Unfortunately, the cell phone's battery is low, so Renate's party-chosen fiance and fuhrer-in-waiting Klaus Adler [Goetz Otto] must go to Earth to obtain more modern computer phones to ;power an all-out invasion of the Earth. Washington is brought along because he "knows the President" and Renate stows aboard to see real Earth culture.
Renate and Klaus hook up with the President's campaign manager [Peta Sergeant] after kidnapping her, She succeeds in designing the re-election campaign around their proposed New Order. New Fuhrer Adler returns to the moon to activate the Gotterdamerung while the Earth is already being attacked by Nazi flying saucers launched from Hindenburg-style carriers towing meteors with which to bombard the Earth.
Renate and Washington return to the moon in the saucer that brought them to sabotage Gotterdamerung while weaponized Mars-explorer crafts from many nations [except Finland] defend our planet from the Nazi onslaught. As a fan i am massively impressed with the directors cut of Iron Sky, it's like a whole new movie.
The directors cut features 20 extra minutes of previously deleted scenes some of which alter the style of the original film, and that's not all, they've added a boatload of new visual effects throughout and made the Meteor Blitzkrieg even more awesome than before, they've even replaced some of the musical scores with new ones. I must suggest however and this is just my personal opinion that this directors cut only be watched by people that have already seen and love the original theatrical cut of the film, why is this?
Because, the film really has been considerably changed by the inclusion of these deleted scenes and the new musical scores. Some of the new scenes work great in the film while some others are ether unnecessary or do harm to the flow of the scenes they were fit back into, even though i love this directors cut i have a strong respect to the way the theatrical cut was edited, the flow of the film was so much more balanced. A great example of another film with a theatrical and directors cut with similar levels of changes between the two is "Donnie Darko", If you've seen both versions of that movie then you know what i mean.
The directors cut of Donnie Darko complements the theatrical cut, it just shouldn't be watched first, same thing goes for Iron Sky. So if you're already a fan of Iron Sky then buy the directors cut, however, if you've never seen this movie before then i suggest buying or renting the theatrical cut and see what you think first. It's unfortunate that they didn't just include the theatrical cut in this release. This is one of my favorite, and not because it is some cinematographic masterpiece.
It is a bad movie, but it is a wonderful bad movie. It's a great movie to watch when you want to see something as ridiculous as moon Nazis. The movie uses some dated political references and quips, but as long as you know a bit about the United States presidential race of All in all, I can't give it a full five stars but I have no regrets giving it 4 stars.
Also, apparently this is a dad movie. I was talking with a friend at school about how my dad had watched this terrifically terrible movie about moon Nazis last night, and the guy sitting in front of me turned around and said "Oh, did your dad watch Iron Sky last night?
See all reviews from the United States. Top international reviews. It all began with stumbling upon a trailer on social media. The movie takes all the conspiracy theories about the Nazis, the dark side of the moon, UFO's, moonbases and mining and puts them together for a fun movie. She's guided by a campaign manager who does a great spoof of the Hitler rant scene in the movie Downfall. Bush which is commanded by a sadistic, black leather-wearing dominatrix who is somewhat surprised to learn that Australia has a space force.
The Russian space station MIR turns up for the fight, which prompts the President to say, " I thought we destroyed that! Without them, they can't launch their largest warship - The Gottdammerung, designed and built by a mad Nazi scientist who claims to have invented the Universal Systematic Binding cable.
The movie plot also includes a vicious power struggle between the Moon Fuhrer who goes into anaphylactic shock every time he eats something and his deputy, Klaus Adler. Also involved is Renate Richter who's employed briefly as the President's speech-writer after the camapign manager brings her and Adler into the White House. If you're a fan of classical music, there's something there for you, particularly Richard Wagner's Der Tannhauser overture. Altogether, a good movie. Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, we failed to record your vote.
Please try again. A Rollicking fun film. Stupid Yes! Ludicrous Undoubtedly but never the less very entertaining. If you found Mars Attacks fun you'll like this, if Dead Snow amused you you'll laugh out loud at this. Never mined it blatantly rewrites history brakes the basic laws of physics, is politically incorrect and pokes fun at the Germans, and the Americans, and just about everyone else and the story line is preposterous. It's just fun on so many other levels. Much in the same vain as early Woody Alan, though I didn't much care for him.
Or maybe even Mel Brooks. You know how people quote Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy and Monty Python well geeks who've seen this are adding quotes from this to their repertoire now A sign of cult status. Utter Genius. The film references Chaplin's "The Great Dictator" very heavily, for those who may be confused about where it's actually coming from. Remarkable blend of in-your-face A lunar city shaped like a swastika, albinizer and quite subtle reference to bombing women and children, hope amongst the rubble and ruins motifs.
More layers than initial impressions suggest, and surely worthy of more than one viewing. And a nicely ironic ending, a resource war that results in Excellent bluray edition for a very original and fun movie. Great making of documentary too. And this version is well worth it. Its better than the original for sure as the extra 20 minutes add a lot to the general result. Great stuff. I saw this other night and enjoyed it.
Although as I expected its not a laugh out loud comedy but has enough laughs to entertain. The film has social commentary - and true at that with comments about the US president being popular because of going into wars and a Sarah Palin lookalike as the President whose character is still dumb as the real woman! Udo Keir speaks all his lines in German and the film in general is a madcap story of Nazis on the dark side ot the Moon and yep world domination time again!
Overall a lot of fun. Load more international reviews. Bought this at a very good price and DVD arrived very quickly. I have watched this and I have to say this is the most bonkers film I have ever seen. The premise sounded quite appealing but the execution was bizarre.
I am not sure if it was meant to be funny, but parts of it were and I feel that was unintentionally so. Watched it once and I feel that is enough for me. A terrificly fun movie which manages to sock you with quite a few less than subtle satirical punches.
